The runback
Objective: BETTER PLACEMENT
This is now my 2nd year in SCR and I feel ready! I know what I'm getting into, I know how to push myself without costing valuable time, and above all else, being there for the members that have given so much to me and to keep the program successful
Result: Stay tuned!
Mentor: Tom Boone (University of Oklahoma - Aerospace & Mechanical Engineering)
January 2026 - May 2026
Objective: Through my project-based Embedded Real-Time Systems course, I was tasked with configuring and demonstrating competence in control systems with a custom hovercraft. However, my semester marked a decade of these machines seeing undergraduate students; rightfully this means some of the robots came with more problems than others. Stalling motors, an unresponsive IMU, and inconsistent infrared readings just to name a few.
Overcoming these setbacks, I cut and crimped new wires for the Sharp sensors and IMU, resoldered connections between the side-mounted fans, and utilized an oscilloscope for troubleshooting H-bridge issues.
Result: Once my hardware problems were resolved, all of my demonstrations were performed timely and accurately. The robot could avoid collisions, track then store positional data, and orient itself if disrupted.
Technical Skills: Wiring, Soldering, C/C++ Programming
Software Experience: Arduino IDE
Rookie year. Lots of learning.
Objective: In the fall of 2025, I returned to competitive robotics, a passion I hadn't worked directly in since my time with Edmond Memorial High School 'IronDogz' in the First Robotics Competition. Focusing on the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC), I took the role of simulating, designing, fabricating, and integrating my program's very first four-bar linkage suspension system.
Technical Skills: CNC Machining, Tooling
Software Experience: SolidWorks, Onshape, AutoCAD Fusion360, MATLAB/Simulink
End Results: Successfully optimized camber angles using mass-spring control theory and machined aluminum plates for mounting that withstood even my own weight as designed. Competition placement: 6th Place AutoNav
